Sarah Andrew

Sarah Andrew was born in the UK, raised in Kenya, and runs six businesses across East Africa. She writes SwiftPesa's guides from the business owner's side of the counter — taxes, payments, suppliers and side ventures she deals with herself — so the advice is practical and local.

About Sarah

Sarah Andrew was born in the UK and grew up in Kenya. Today she runs six businesses across East Africa, which means much of her week goes on the same things SwiftPesa readers ask about: registering companies, paying staff and suppliers, filing taxes, moving money between mobile money, banks and clients abroad, and deciding where the next shilling should go.

She started SwiftPesa because most money advice Africans find online is written for America or Europe. It assumes a pension plan, a credit score and a bank that answers the phone. The guides here start from how money actually works in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania and beyond.

How we write our guides

  • Local first. Every guide is written for a specific country, with figures in the local currency.
  • Primary sources. Tax rates, fees and rules come from the source — revenue authorities, central banks, regulators and providers' own tariff pages — and are linked in the article.
  • Dated and updated. Each guide shows when its figures were last checked. Rates change, so guides are revisited regularly.
  • Honest about grey areas. If something works but a platform doesn't like it, we tell you both.
  • No paid placements. Nobody pays to be recommended.
