Sending fees are Vodacom M-Pesa's and Mixx by Yas's own published customer tariffs, checked October 2026. "Cash out at an agent" is the total you pay (provider fee plus the government mobile money levy) and is the same figure for M-Pesa and Mixx by Yas in every band we checked against both providers' tariff sheets. Airtel Money Tanzania isn't included: it doesn't publish a public tariff table, so check the fee its *150*60# menu shows before you confirm. The top band (over TZS 3,000,000) is shown up to TZS 10,000,000, the per-transaction cap for a fully verified (Tier 3) M-Pesa wallet; receiving money is always free on both services.

About this calculator
Sending TZS 10,000 to another M-Pesa customer costs TZS 350; cashing it out at an agent costs TZS 1,552 once the government levy is added — the same total whether you're on M-Pesa or Mixx by Yas.
How Tanzania's mobile money charges work
Vodacom M-Pesa and Mixx by Yas price sending money in bands: the more you send, the higher the flat fee, but the smaller it is as a share of the amount. Cashing out at an agent always costs more than sending, because a government mobile money levy is added on top of the provider's own fee — from TZS 10 on small withdrawals up to TZS 2,000 on withdrawals over TZS 3 million, built into both providers' current tariff sheets.
A few ways to pay less:
- Send, don't withdraw, when you can. Cashing out TZS 100,000 costs TZS 4,357 on either service, more than four times the TZS 1,000 it costs to send the same amount to another wallet on the same network.
- Compare before sending to a bank account. Mixx by Yas charges noticeably more than M-Pesa to push money into a bank account at most amounts — TZS 6,000 against M-Pesa's TZS 3,500 at TZS 100,000, for example.
- Airtel Money doesn't publish a public tariff table. Always check the fee Airtel's menu shows you, dialled on 15060#, before you confirm.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to send TZS 10,000 on M-Pesa Tanzania?
TZS 350 to another M-Pesa customer, TZS 495 to a customer on another network, or TZS 1,000 straight into a bank account, on Vodacom's current tariff, checked October 2026.
Does Mixx by Yas charge the same fees as M-Pesa Tanzania?
Sending fees are close but not identical — TZS 360 to send TZS 10,000 on Mixx by Yas against TZS 350 on M-Pesa. Cashing out costs the same on both: in every band we checked against both providers' own tariff sheets, the total you pay to withdraw was identical.
Why is withdrawing more expensive than sending the same amount?
Withdrawals carry Tanzania's mobile money levy on top of the provider's own fee; sending doesn't. That's why cashing out TZS 100,000 costs TZS 4,357 in total, while sending the same amount to another M-Pesa wallet costs only TZS 1,000.
What's the most I can send or withdraw at once?
Your KYC tier sets the cap: a basic (Tier 1) wallet can move up to TZS 1,000,000 a day, rising to TZS 50,000,000 a day on a fully verified (Tier 3) wallet with a TIN and business licence, under the limits Vodacom publishes for M-Pesa.
Why doesn't this calculator include Airtel Money?
Airtel Tanzania doesn't publish an official tariff poster the way Vodacom and Yas do, so any figure we showed could go stale without warning. Airtel's own 15060# menu shows the exact fee before you confirm — check there instead.
How often do these fees change?
Vodacom last updated its M-Pesa tariff on 1 July 2025. Mixx by Yas's page carries no change date. Both were checked again in October 2026, but always confirm the figure the app or USSD menu shows before you send.
