MTN Uganda figures are from MTN's own agent page (mtn.co.ug/momo/agent/), checked November 2026. The UGX 500-2,500 deposit band pays 4% of the amount; every other band pays the flat UGX figure shown. These are MTN's gross published commission, before the 10% final withholding tax on agent commissions that applies from 1 July 2026 under the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026. Airtel hasn't published a 2026 agent commission schedule we could verify anywhere, so it isn't shown here; ask for Airtel's current written commission sheet at a shop.

About this calculator
Enter an amount below to see what MTN pays on your side of the till. From 1 July 2026, MTN and Airtel must withhold 10% of that commission as a final tax before it reaches you, so the figures here are gross, not what lands in your account.
Airtel hasn't published its own 2026 commission rates anywhere we could verify, so only MTN's figures are shown.
How it's worked out
MTN publishes a fixed commission in UGX for each transaction band, separately for cash deposits (cash-in) and cash withdrawals (cash-out), on its own agent page. This calculator matches your amount to MTN's published band and shows the commission MTN pays before tax (MTN Uganda, MoMo Agent, checked November 2026).
The smallest deposit band, UGX 500 to UGX 2,500, is the one exception: MTN pays 4% of the amount rather than a flat fee. The calculator works that percentage out for you.
The Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026 requires MTN and Airtel to withhold 10% of every commission payment to an agent as a final tax, effective 1 July 2026, so no further income tax is due on that income (EY: Uganda issues Tax Amendment Acts for 2026, 11 June 2026, with assent confirmed 20 August 2026). The figures above are MTN's gross published commission: take off 10% to get your actual take-home.
Airtel hasn't published an agent commission schedule for 2026 on its website or in any document we could open, so it isn't included in the table. Ask for Airtel's current written commission sheet when you apply at a shop, and get it in writing before you commit your float to its network over MTN's.
Frequently asked questions
How much commission does an MTN mobile money agent earn in Uganda?
It depends on the transaction band. MTN pays UGX 100 to UGX 5,000 per cash withdrawal depending on size, and UGX 110 to UGX 3,000 per cash deposit above UGX 2,500 (4% of the amount below that). Use the calculator above for your exact amount.
Does Airtel pay agents the same commission as MTN?
Nobody outside Airtel knows for sure. Airtel hasn't published a 2026 agent commission schedule anywhere SwiftPesa could verify, so treat any "Airtel commission chart" you find online without a 2026 date as unreliable, and ask for Airtel's current rates in writing at a shop.
Is mobile money agent commission taxed in Uganda?
Yes. From 1 July 2026, MTN and Airtel must withhold 10% of every commission payment to an agent as a final tax before paying it out, under the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026. Because it's a final tax, you don't owe anything further on that income.
Why is the commission on small deposits different from the rest of the table?
MTN pays a flat UGX amount for every band except deposits of UGX 500 to UGX 2,500, where it pays 4% of what you deposit instead. On a UGX 1,000 deposit, that's UGX 40.
How much can an MTN agent earn in a month?
A kiosk doing roughly 30 cash-ins and 30 cash-outs a day, split between UGX 20,000 and UGX 100,000 amounts, earns in the region of UGX 675,000 a month in gross commission, or about UGX 607,500 after the 10% withholding tax. Rent, staff and float costs come out of that.
