How to pay less on eWallet fees in Namibia

  1. Send in one go, not in pieces. With FNB, one N$2,000 eWallet costs N$15. Four of N$500 cost N$48.
  2. Use the top of each band. FNB charges N$15 for anything from N$501 to N$2,000, so sending N$2,000 costs 0.75%, while N$600 costs 2.5%.
  3. Avoid N$2,001. With FNB, N$2,000 costs N$15 and N$2,001 costs N$30.
  4. Collect FNB eWallets at a till. CashPlus withdrawals at shops are free. A second ATM withdrawal costs N$14.
  5. Check the number twice. A reversal costs N$25 at FNB and N$33.75 at Bank Windhoek, more than the send itself.
  6. If you bank with Bank Windhoek and send often, compare the cost of moving money to an FNB account. For regular sends between N$1,001 and N$2,000, you'd pay N$15 instead of N$41.50.

What about Standard Bank, Nedbank and MTC Maris?

Standard Bank Namibia (Blue Voucher and the PayPulse app), Nedbank Namibia (Send-iMali) and MTC's Maris mobile money service also let you send money to a cellphone number. We couldn't find current 2026 fee schedules for these services. Some guides quote figures from 2022 pricing guides, which are out of date. Check the fee in the app or on the bank's latest pricing guide before you send.

What to watch out for

  • Old fee tables. Search results still show 2022 and 2025 eWallet fees. FNB's and Bank Windhoek's fees changed on 1 July 2026.
  • eWallet scams. Fraudsters ask you to send an eWallet for goods that never arrive, or ask for the ATM PIN "to confirm" a payment. Never share an eWallet PIN with anyone except the person you're paying.
  • Wrong numbers. An eWallet to the wrong cellphone number can be cashed by a stranger before you notice. Check the number before you confirm.

If your salary arrives in a bank account and you send part of it home by eWallet each month, both costs add up. Our guide to PAYE in Namibia shows what comes off before payday. Elsewhere in Southern Africa, Botswana's Orange Money and MyZaka charges are flat P5–P6 sends, and Lesotho's M-Pesa and EcoCash charges switch to a percentage above M5,000.
